Jean-Yves Dionne, pharmacist, is a scientific advisor and natural health products consultant for several companies and professional organizations. He is often called upon to speak to health professionals about complementary medicines. From 1999 to 2003, he restructured the pharmacognosy course at the Faculté de Pharmacie in Montréal to make it a clinical evidence based course in phytotherapy and natural health products(NHP). For his work he received the “Aventis Pharma award for outstanding contribution to teaching” from the de l’Université de Montréal. He teaches toxicology of NHP at the faculty of Medicine dept of Pharmacology Université de Montréal and Development of NHP under the new legislation at the Faculte de pharmacie, Université Laval.
From 1992 to 2000 Jean-Yves Dionne owned a clinical pharmacy in Rawdon, Qc. During that time he sat on the advisory board of Clinique Santé (Mc Kesson) and was Associate Clinician at Université de Montréal.
Jean-Yves Dionne has studied in many complementary and alternative health techniques: phytotherapy, essential oils, homeopathy, naturopathy, bodywork (Feldenchrist, Alexander, Eutonie, etc.), traditional Chinese medicine, nutrition, etc. He became a leading authority on Alternative medicine in Quebec. Between 1999 and 2005 he taught pharmacology and interactions NHP/medication at the “École d’enseignement supérieur de Naturopathie du Québec” (Naturopathic school in Montreal) and is a member of the board of Directors.
Jean-Yves Dionne is the author of several books on natural health products both in French and English. In 1999 he co-authored the “Herbs: Everyday Reference for Health Professionals» published by the Canadian Pharmacists Association. His last book in French is « S.O.S. Os, des os solides à tout âge. » He is a regular collaborator to l’actualité pharmaceutique since 2002. Other magazines include Drugstore Canada, Quebec Pharmacie, Vitalité Quebec Mag, Alive Magazine, etc. He contributes to and acts as reviewer for www.passeportsante.net, the leading French online database on alternative health. He acts as an expert advisor to the major nutritionist organization of Eastern Canada: Harmonie Santé.
Jean-Yves Dionne is a member of the Natural Health Product Research Society of Canada; a member of «Table Filière des Plantes Médicinales du Québec» (Medicinal herbs round table), the Quebec herbalist guild; the ordre des pharmaciens du Quebec.
He is a regular guest on radio and TV (Corus 98,5 FM. Radio Canada, LCN, etc.) especially when controversial news on NHP needs to be explained.
